Referrals
The main task of MDCO is to carry out research into the nature and treatment of bipolar disorders. We are able to provide consultation services to patients thought to be suffering from a bipolar disorder. In certain cases we are able to extent the consultation if specialized care is required and not yet available, or offer long term care to patients and family members suitable and agreeable to involved in our research program.
We are not in a position to see patients who have signs of an acute medical illness or have outstanding legal charges.
The better we understand the predicament of the patient, the more we will be able to help with recommendations. Therefore, a comprehensive assessment is needed. This assessment usually takes several appointments during which we assess the patient’s history, review the relevant documentation, obtain collateral history and carry out the necessary psychiatric and laboratory tests.
During the consultation, the patient remains under the care of the referring physician. Change in the medication(s) would be made only in the case of an emergency. At the end of the consultation, we provide recommendations for further care.
